The answer to the question, How does one eat an elephant?, Is one bite at a time! It is one of my favorite analogies. Nothing worth doing ever comes quickly. The time it takes for us to master a skill or reach a goal may be long but it is worth it. We learn so much in the process and waiting. By waiting I don’t mean doing nothing until something happens. To wait well is to practice relentlessly, fail a bunch, and consistently get back up and try again. Each time we try we are not starting from scratch but rather from experience and those places where we may have scraped or bruised ourselves (or our egos) along the way are now healed and stronger than before. We are hopefully wiser with each new attempt and eventually we will be able to take that final bite and enjoy the fullness of the fruit of our labor.
